1. Promoter
The competition is run by [promoter's legal name, registration number and physical address] ("TripProof"). Contact: [email / phone].
2. Competition period
Points are earned from day one. There is one draw every 3 months (quarterly) for R2,500 cash.
Each quarter is a separate competition: January–March, April–June, July–September and October–December. It runs from 00:00 on the 1st day of the quarter to 23:59 on its last day, South African time.
3. How to enter. There's no entry fee.
- Entering costs nothing. You don't need to buy anything, and you don't need to pay for charging to enter.
- Every point is one entry. Points earned during a quarter are your tickets for that quarter's draw.
- How you earn points (you must be signed in):
- verified charger check-in (your phone puts you within about 150 m of the charger, with accurate GPS, not flagged by our fraud checks): 5 points;
- check-out at least 5 minutes after that check-in: 5 points;
- charger-screen photo that we approve: 10 points;
- verified GPS trip in the Trip log (sharing switched on, realistic distance, speeds and energy): 5 points;
- an idea you posted on the Suggestions page that TripProof marks Planned: 5 points, and 5 more when it's Done (starts when Suggestions goes live; amounts can be changed by TripProof before a quarter starts).
- Free entry without charging: send a message from the Help tab in the app (or email [address]) with the subject "Draw entry" and the email you signed in with. You get 5 points, once per person per quarter.
- You must be 18 or older and live in South Africa.
4. Who can't enter
The following people can't win:
- directors, members, partners, employees, agents and consultants of the promoter;
- anyone who supplies goods or services for this competition, including charger-network partners that provide prizes;
- the spouses, life partners, business partners and immediate family of anyone above.
This follows CPA s36(4).
5. Prize
R2,500 cash per quarterly draw, paid by EFT into the winner's South African bank account. If the prize ever changes, we announce it in the app before the quarter it applies to starts.
The prize can't be transferred to another person.
6. Draw, winner notice and delivery
- The draw happens on the 1st day after the quarter ends, or the next business day.
- How the winner is picked:
- every valid entry gets a ticket number;
- a cryptographically random number picks one ticket;
- the database records the date and time, the number of entries, a fingerprint (hash) of the entry list, the random number and the winning ticket, so the draw can be checked later.
- We tell the winner by email or phone (from their account) within 2 days of the draw. The winner has [7] days to reply.
- We aim to pay the prize within 5 business days after the winner replies with their details.
- If the winner doesn't reply in time, can't be contacted, or isn't eligible, the prize is forfeited and we draw again the same way.
- We announce the winner by first name and initial only, and only with their consent. Anyone can ask us for the result, and it's free.
- We keep draw records for at least 3 years.
7. Fair play
- Check-ins are checked automatically. We look for:
- distance from the charger and GPS accuracy;
- check-out too soon after check-in;
- repeat check-ins at the same charger during one visit;
- travel between chargers faster than possible;
- repeated identical location readings (fake-GPS apps).
- Flagged entries don't count unless we clear them after review.
- Using location-spoofing apps, multiple accounts, or anything else meant to get around these checks disqualifies all of that person's entries.
8. Your information (POPIA)
- For check-ins we store the charger, the time, how far you were from the charger, and the GPS accuracy. We never store your own position.
- Photos are stored privately. Before uploading, the app removes the hidden photo data (EXIF), keeping only the photo time and your distance from the charger so we can check the claim. Only TripProof reviewers can see the photos.
- We use your contact details only to run the draw and deliver the prize.
- You can delete your check-in data and photos at any time from the Help tab, and your trips from the Trip log ("Delete my data"). Deleting them also removes those entries for the current quarter.
9. General
- These rules are free to view in the app at any time.
- Entry is free and these rules are published before each draw. Changes apply only to future draws, never to a draw already running, and we give notice in the app. The promoter may cancel a competition only where the law allows.
- Where these rules conflict with the Consumer Protection Act, the Act applies.
